Anniversary of Project SEED

Project SEED celebrates its 40th anniversary this year! Since 1968, Project SEED has exposed more than 7,400 high school students to a summer of hands-on research with a scientist in academic, industry, and government research laboratories.

Project SEED is the ACS program that places economically disadvantaged high school students in summer research positions in academic and industrial laboratories. Over the last four decades, the Project SEED program has maintained an exceptional record of positive impact on young people. Each Project SEED student works under a mentor scientist, working not only on scientific research, but also learning about career and educational opportunities.

For 8 to 10 weeks, SEED students have the unique opportunity to work with scientists, who help them develop laboratory, written and oral skills as they discover that they are capable of conducting scientific research. Mentors also provide guidance, encouragement, and letters of recommendation for college.

In this workshop, you will learn from the experts how to become involved in Project SEED; how to be a coordinator or a mentor, how to coordinate students, find mentors, and maintain a program in your area or institution. You will receive information about the fundamentals of fundraising, and most importantly you will hear from students. Project SEED can be a powerful community outreach and education program for your area. This half-day workshop will show you how to get started! Your browser may not support display of this image.
