Anthony Tong

My name is Anthony Tong. I have been involved in the ACS National Younger Chemists Committee since 2005. Currently I am serving the Communication and Local/Regional Activities Committees. I have so much fun knowing other YCC members and working with them! I am also part of the Local Section ACS in San Diego. I have served as the YCC Chair in my section for two years, and currently I am an Alternate Councilor.
I was a Senior Research Scientist at Nanogen, Inc., an advanced diagnostics company. In this capacity, I was responsible for analytical method development, manufacturing support, and other R&D activities. Because my current position involves HPLC and mass spectrometry, many people thought I am trained as a chemist. In fact, I am trained as a chemical engineer at college and an oligonucleotide scientist at graduate school. I received my BS from Purdue University and PhD from Columbia University. In addition to science and technology, I also have a strong interest in biotech business management in an innovation-driven organization. I my pursuing my MBA right now in the Rady School of Management at the University of California in San Diego. One of my career goals is to join an entrepreneurial team for a new biotech venture to focus on corporate development and strategy.
