Simon Shannon
My name is Simon Shannon. I am originally from Jacksonville, FL (William M. Raines, Bolles High School graduate). I was recruited by the University of Minnesota on a wrestling scholarship and eventually obtained a both a B.A. and Ph.D. in chemistry. I began my career as a Senior Research Chemist at 3M where I spent 4 years conducting research in the biotechnology cluster of the Corporate Research Materials Laboratory. At the present time, I am transitioning to upstate New York to begin a new career at Corning, Inc.
In addition to being a member of the ACS Younger Chemists Committee, I am also affiliated with the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) (Public Relations Committee) as well as two fraternal orders Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., F&AM, P.H.A.
