Dustin Levy
I joined the ACS Younger Chemists Committee in 2005 and sit on the Society Interface and Outreach and National Meeting Activities Subcommittees of the YCC. I received my B.S. in Chemistry from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA in 2001 and completed my Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2005. From late 2005 to early 2007, I was a National Research Council Postdoctoral Associate in the Optical Technology Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. My pre- and postdoctoral research involved the application of the ultrafast lasers to the study of chemical and biological systems and led to presentations at several ACS National and Regional Meetings and publications in leading ACS journals.
I accepted my current position at Smiths Detection in Danbury, CT in February 2007, where my primary responsibilities are the development of portable chemical identification systems for use by emergency response personnel. So, since joining the YCC, I have undergone transitions from graduate research to a government postdoc and from a government postdoc to an industrial research position, and have found my affiliation with the ACS and the YCC to very beneficial during these times.
