Mick Hurrey

My name is Mick Hurrey. I'm an analytical/physical chemist at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, MA. My involvement with the ACS and YCC began while in graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004. My area of scientific interest is in polymorphism and solid state chemistry of pharmaceutics, which only slightly relates to my graduate work in sum frequency generation spectroscopy. Since joining the YCC, I’ve been appointed co-chair of the Younger Chemists Network (YCN), liaison to the Membership Affairs Committee, Divisional Liaison for the YCC, and chair of the Strategic Planning Subcommittee. I’ve also served as co-chair or chair of six symposia at ACS National Meetings as a part of the YCC, the Analytical Division, or the Division of Business Development and Management. I'm currently serving the YCC as Chair of the Committee and am looking forward to future opportunities to help my fellow younger chemists reach their personal and professional goals. Outside of chemistry I’m an avid volleyball player, alpine skier, aspiring gourmet chef, and now a Dad. I live outside of Boston with my wife Susie and my son Kellen, and our two “furry” kids Sandy and Saki. We enjoy traveling the world meeting new people and cultures.
