Katherine Glasgow

Kathy and her son, wearing his UNC hat!

My name is Katherine Glasgow, and I am the Senior Materials Scientist for Nomacorc, LLC. Nomacorc is a division of Noel Group, a privately held company that manufactures products based on foamed extrusion technology. I previously worked at GE Plastics, where I focused on polycarbonate-based materials for automotive, aircraft, food contact, and medical applications. What I really like about my job and my career is that I'm constantly learning more and more about the role technology can play in today's business world.

Before I entered the world of plastics, I studied chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BS Chem 1995) and Indiana University (Ph.D. 2000),studying inorganic chemistry and catalysis. While I enjoyed the research I did in the groups of Holden Thorp (UNC) and Malcolm Chisholm (IU), I feel like I've really found my niche in industry.

I joined YCC in 1998 after becoming involved in my ACS local section, especially National Chemistry Week planning. In my spare time, I enjoy playing volleyball, softball, and hanging out with my husband and our sons Ian and Colin, who collectively watch or play every sport that exists!
