2002 Honorees
Outstanding LSYCC for 2002
North Carolina
This year's award saw North Carolina narrowly edge out four-time winner Western New York for its second Outstanding LSYCC honor. As one of the most innovative LSYCC groups in the country, North Carolina continues to hold diverse and unique programs for younger chemists. Their events include: Spring and Fall Pre-National ACS Meeting Mixers that are designed to bring together younger chemists who are planning to attend the ACS national meeting, active collaboration with the Senior Chemists Committee (SCC) resulting in two joint YCC-SCC lectures, and an exhibition at the North Carolina State Fair where hands-on demonstrations are given by LSYCC members reaching approximately 150,000 fairgoers!
Several social events are also held including volleyball, a summer jamboree/party, a Holiday Ball and annual elections held in conjunction with an ice-skating event. The North Carolina LSYCC used a survey and ranking system to evaluate their events and gauge younger chemist's interest in particular programs.
