Leadership Development Award for Younger Chemists

LDW workshop

Participants at a Leadership Development Workshop

The YCC Leadership Development Workshops are held in conjunction with the ACS Annual Leaders' Conference and is part of the ACS Leadership Development system. The LDW workshops are designed to help young chemists develop into highly skilled leaders in the Society and in their chosen profession.

YCC awards up to 15 applicants with travel awards to attend the conference. Participants in the conference include other ACS leaders from local sections, divisions, regions and the elected ACS officers. It is a wonderful opportunity to enhance your leadership skills not only for ACS but your current job as well.

This year twenty-three young chemists converged in Dallas, Texas to attend the YCC track of the American Chemical Society Leadership Development Institue. During the three day weekend, the younger chemist leaders met and networked with other ACS leaders, governance, and staff; developed leadership and management skills; indentified the value and benifits of being an ACS volunteer leader; aquired knowledge and shared best practices through networking; AND, had FUN!

"The entire weekend was well done- I honestly could not have asked for more. All of the workshops were really useful and chock full of "real-life" applicable content. Furthermore, all of the trainers as well as attendees I met were just really high quality individuals. I felt very lucky to have had such a fabulous and unique networking opportunity." - Molly 2008 LDW Attendee

Information about the 2009 Award will be posted here in July of 2008.
