I am pleased to announce that chemistry student Natalie LaFranzo is the

recipient of the Bradley University/Smith Career Center 2006 Outstanding

Co-op/Intern of the Year Award, representing the College of Liberal Arts

& Sciences. Natalie conducted her internship at the USDA - NCAUR - ARS

under the supervision of Dr. Girma Biresaw. Each year, Bradley

University recognizes up to five students for their outstanding

achievements in a co-op or internship. These students participated in a

career-related work experience that was exceptional in content and

performance of duties. The award application guidelines are described in

the attached document.

 

Each year, Bradley University has approximately 430 students participate

in a co-op or internship experience. In November, students are asked to

submit an application for the award (approximately 20-30 applications

are received annually). The applications are reviewed by faculty members

and career advisors. The final selection committee chooses one winner

per college.

The Smith Career Center recognizes award winners in the following ways:

 

*         Winners receive a monetary award and plaque, to be presented

at the Spring Co-op Faculty Advisory Board meeting (date to be

determined).

 

*         Name and picture will appear in the Bradley Scout.

 

*         Name, picture, and biography will appear on the Smith Career

Center web site.

 

*         Winners serve as a guest speaker at one or two career-related

events during the spring 2007 semester.

Application Instructions

 

 

Each winner of this award will be honored with:

§      $100 award

§      Plaque

§      Name and picture in the Scout

§      Name and picture on the Smith Career Center web site

§      Recognition at an Employer Advisory Board meeting, Spring Job Fair, Co-op/Intern Advisory Board meeting, and/or Smith Career Center Co-op/Internship Information Sessions. (Winners   will be required to attend and speak at some of the above functions during spring 2007.)

§      Recognition within your college. (Type of recognition will vary with each college.)

 

        One award will be granted per college. The Smith Career Center reserves the right not to select an Outstanding Co-op/Intern of the Year, if the nominees do not meet the requirements. Past award winners are not eligible.

r                  ONLY CONTINUING STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE SPRING 2007 SEMESTER ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

 

 

I.  To be eligible for this award, you must have

  • registered your Co-op/internship with the Smith Career Center and completed the work assignment during the January Interim 2006, Spring 2006, Summer 2006, or Fall 2006 session. No retroactive registration will be granted.

 

  • earned a final grade of “Pass” or “Satisfactory.”  

 

  • completed and submitted all Cooperative Education & Internship paperwork normally required to complete your co-op/intern course, including:

 

§         Cooperative Education & Internship Student Agreement, Parts 1 & 2

 

§         Cooperative Education & Internship Student Pre-Evaluation, if it was your first Co-op/internship work assignment

 

§         Cooperative Education & Internship Goals Statement , completed with your Co-op/internship site supervisor within the first two weeks of your Co-op/internship

 

§         Cooperative Education & Internship Final Report – Parts 1-3 (green report)

 

§         Written Essay

 

§         Cooperative Education & Internship Student Performance Evaluation, completed by your Site Supervisor

 

For fall 2006 Co-op/Interns, the final report will be due November 27, 2006 to your Co-op/Intern Faculty Advisor or SCC Career Advisor.


 

II. To apply for this award, you must complete and submit to your Co-op/Intern Faculty Advisor or SCC Career Advisor by Monday, November 27, 2006:

 

§         Bradley University/Smith Career Center Outstanding Co-op/Intern of the Year Award Application Form

 

§         Letter of application addressed to your Co-op/Intern Faculty Advisor or SCC Career Advisor describing why you are the best candidate to receive the award

 

§         Final Essay (This is the written essay you submitted to your Co-op/Intern Faculty Advisor or SCC Career Advisor at the end of your Co-op/internship along with your final report.)

 

§         Letter of recommendation written by your co-op/internship site supervisor

 

§         Supporting Materials- optional (i.e. portfolio, sample of work/project, Power Point presentation, art work)

 

NOTE:  For those who are completing a Co-op/internship during the fall 2006 semester, some of the documents included in the Final Evaluation Materials due to your Co-op/Intern Faculty Advisor or SCC Career Advisor are the same documents to be included with your application for the Co-op/Intern of the Year Award (e.g. Cooperative Education & Internship Final Report and Final Essay). Two sets of these documents should be included: one for the final evaluation and one for the Co-op/Intern of the Year Award Application. The Final Evaluation Materials for your

              Co-op/Internship and the Application for the Co-op/Intern of the Year Award are due to your Co-op/Intern Faculty Advisor or SCC Career Advisor on Monday, November 27, 2006.

 

III. Applications will be judged based on the following criteria:

 

      Co-op/Internship Experience

            How related to the major/career interest was the experience?

            Accomplishments achieved during experience

            Degree of responsibility held during experience

            Contribution to the job

            Progress toward achieving goals set at the beginning of work session       

 

      Written Essay and Letter of Application - (If the essay was written for a previous work assignment and is not error free, please make corrections before submitting it in your Co-op/Intern of the Year award application materials.)

NOTE:  All pieces of the application packet will be evaluated based upon quality of content, grammar, punctuation and format.  (Proof! Proof! Proof!)
