The Committee on Community Activities (CCA) and the Office of Community Activities are pleased to announce the Chemists Celebrate Earth Day (CCED) contest winners for CCED 2006.
CCA members chose the winners at the recent ACS national meeting in San Francisco. Two prizes have been awarded in each of four grade categories. The first place winners will receive a $150 gift certificate for Amazon.com. Second place winners will receive a $75 gift certificate for Amazon.com. We will be mailing the prizes and a letter of congratulations directly to the winners. A letter will be mailed to the teacher at their school informing them of their winning student.
In the K - 2nd Grade category:
First Place - West Virginia
Second Place - Brazosport
In the 3rd - 4th Grade category:
First Place - Princeton
Second Place - Illinois Heartland
In the 5th - 8th Grade category:
First Place - Southwest Georgia
Second Place - Western Carolinas
In the 9th - 12th Grade category:
First Place - Monmouth County
Second Place - Pittsburgh

This information along with all the student names, school names and pictures of the first place winners will be placed on the chemistry.org/earthday site in the next two weeks.
The CCED 2007 theme is "Recycling--Chemistry Can!" and there is again an illustrated haiku contest planned. We hope to see more winning entries from your local sections.
