Lakeview Museum and the Peoria American Chemical Society are proud to welcome Felice Frankel as the inaugural speaker of the American Chemical Society’s Distinguished Scientist Lecture Series. Frankel, an MIT research scientist and Director of the Envisioning Science Project, will present her captivating images, while sharing techniques for communicating science through images. Frankel, a science photographer, works with scientists and engineers to capture images from science processes, creating a window to science discovery, by offering an unintimidating view of science that compels the viewer to ask questions and pay attention to the details of the world around them. Frankel uses both a conventional camera and high-powered microscopic equipment to capture her extraordinarily beautiful images. Her photography is both scientifically educational and beautiful as an artform in itself.

Frankel has co-authored the book On the Surface of Things, Images of the Extraordinary in Science as well as Modern Landscape Architecture: Redefining the Garden and her own book entitled Envisioning Science: The Design and Craft of the Science Image. Frankel has had photographic exhibitions in numerous venues around the world including The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, Champs-Elysees in Paris, The New York Academy of Sciences and the Musee de L’Elysee in Switzerland. Frankel’s permanent installations can be found at MIT, Harvard University, Astrazeneca and The National Academies in Irvine, California. Her work has been featured on the cover of many scientific journals including Scientific American, Nature, Physics Today, American Institute of Chemical Engineers Journal and The Journal of Chemical Education. Frankel has been a guest on Newshour with Jim Lehrer and her book On the Surface of Things, Images of the Extraordinary in Science has received distinguished praise from publications including the New Yorker, Newsweek and Discover Magazine.

Please join us for this event as we celebrate the marriage of art and science, and offer a unique view of science and the world around us that will keep us asking “How and why?”. Attendance is free and open to the public, and will take place in Lakeview’s auditorium Friday, May 7 at 7:30pm.
