The total income (minus the IPG and Science Cafe monies) for 2006 was $11452.89 and the expenses for 2006 were $9743.40 giving a $1709.49 favorable outcome. Corporate donations were solicited to fund NCW and other outreach activities. Caterpillar, PDC Labs, and Aventine Renewables donated $500 each. The relatively good interest rate on the GLRM04 CD provided increased revenue, and the interest will be rolled over into new CDs when they mature in 2007. The Illinois Heartland has achieved the financial "safety net" level recommended by national ACS: Cash Reserves: 1.5 x (Allotment+Dues)

Long Range Financial Plan

  1. Build up cash reserves per ACS recommendation.
    • Accomplished!
  2. Build Collegiate Scholarship Award (CSA) Endowment
    • We should be able to increase the CSA endowment to $20000 in 2007 from $16800 in 2006.
  3. Raise funds for programming such as National Chemistry Week (NCW), Distinguished Scientist, Chemist of the Year, Student Research Poster Session, and High School Chemistry Contest (Olympiad).
    • Three corporate donors gave $500 each in 2006. 2004: $500 2005: $1000 2006: $1500.
  4. Periodic review of investments.
    • Interest rates should be greater than 5% in 2007.
  5. Provide support to ANGEL donor estate planning.
    • Heartland Community Foundation
  6. Partner with other scientific & community organizations to share costs and enhance programming.
    • We have formed many partnerships with community organizations.
