ACS High School Exam


The First-Year American Chemical Society Exam is an annual event run by the Orange County Section of the ACS. It is open to any first-year chemistry student enrolled in college-prep and honors.

Eight students from each High School may take the exam. The top-scorer from each school gets his/her name engraved on a plaque that is showcased at the participating school.

The First Year Chemistry Test was administered at Cal State Fullerton on April 26, 2008.
41 Public and Private high Schools participated sending almost 300 students to take the Orange County test. For more than 25 years (some even up to 45 year), 19 of these schools have participated in this annual event. Brian Kim of Troy High School had the highest score of 96% for a test where the average score was 64%.

Results of the 2008 exam:
    285 students from 43 Orange County public and private high schools participated
    County Average: 65.4%
    Highest Score in OC: 97.4%, Troy High School.

The annual OCACS High School Awards Dinner on May 24, 2008 honored all the students and teachers who have participated.
