National
Chemistry Week 2008
was
held at the
Santa Ana Zoo
on
Sunday, October 12, 2008
This year’s
theme:
Having a Ball with Chemistry
Chemistry
students from 10 or more Orange
County colleges set up
demonstrations and hands-on
chemistry activities for the
hundreds of children who visited
the Santa Ana Zoo that day,
including many from the Hispanic
neighborhoods nearby,
as well as to Boy Scout and
Girl Scout troops.
 Iron analysis of cereals.
 A group of Cub Scouts gets ready to look for electrolytes in sports drinks.
 Make way for Silly Putty!

Everyone hard at work making bouncy balls.

Kids focus on relative densities of substances – and how it relates to swimming.

College students prepare to help kids analyze the iron content of cereals.
