November 7-10 / Intercontinental Hotel / Country Club Plaza / Kansas City MO

Kansas City, Missouri is located at the crossroads of I-29, I-35, and I-70 as well as the Kansas and Missouri rivers. It is easily accessible by car, train, and air travel. While often thought of as a "Cow Town", Kansas City has much to offer in terms of arts and entertainment, shopping, sports, and of course food (especially barbeque).

Kansas City has called the "Paris of the Plains" and is well know for its historic shopping, dining, music districts and neighborhoods. The Intercontinental Hotel overlooks Brush Creek and the Country Club Plaza, the nation's first outdoor shopping center and home to over 140 fine restaurants and stores. The Seville-style architecture is surrounded by the largest concentration of sculptures and fountains in the United States including the landmark J.C. Nichols fountain. The fall foliage is still in full color in early November, and in some years rivals that of New England.

In addition to the Plaza, other attractions within walking distance, or a short cab ride, of the meeting site include historic Westport with its cozy cafes and jazz clubs, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Loose Park, the Kansas City Art Institute and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the University of Missouri - Kansas City, and the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Other ares of interest accessible by bus or shuttle are Crown Center, Science City at Union Station, the 18th and Vine jazz district, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Sporting events within a short drive include the Kansas City Chiefs stadium and UMKC Kangaroo NCAA Division IA basketball.

Please join us this fall for an exciting week of science and culture. See you on the Plaza!
