This Executive Committee Meeting was held as part of spring Meeting-in-Miniature.

Board Members present: Cyd McClure-chair; Steve Holmgren-chair-elect; Andrea Stierle-secretary; Doug Coe- Councilor; Gary Freebury, outreach; Don Stierle-past chair

Treasurer Doug Cameron could not be present, so the treasurer's report was distributed by Andrea Stierle.

Cyd began the meeting by thanking the Montana Tech faculty for an excellent meeting-in-miniature, and the participants for their attendance. Cyd suggested that the meeting be brief as it followed a lengthy meeting last February. TheBoard concurred.

• Members of the Exec. Board who did not have students presenting at the meeting (Andrea excused herself) selected the two $500 award winners. Although the many excellent talks made the choice a difficult one, UM-Missoula graduate student Robert Fischer and Montana Tech undergraduate student Lori Christiaens were selected as this year's awardees. Andrea will contact the two students to tell them of their awards. Congratulations to Robert and Lori, and to all of the presenters at the spring meeting.

• Last month the Board agreed that we needed to nominate another high school teacher for the ACS Outstanding High School Teacher Award. Gary Freebury provided some suggested guidelines for selection of the nominee:

1. They must be currently teaching at least 1 period of chemistry.

2. They must be a current member of the CHMst organization which is an affiliate of the Montana Section of ACS.

3. They must have their students participate in the Montana Chemistry Olympiad.

The recipient will receive two years of membership in the National ACS and 2 years subscription to the Journal of Chem Ed. In addition to this they will be expected to particpate in a program with the Montana Section of ACS.  The Board concurred that these were reasonable guidelines.

• Fall Social--- Cyd recommended Mammoth Hot Springs for the site this Fall. Andrea agreed to give that a try. Once the other colleges provide Andrea with homecoming dates, she will set the date of the meeting based on availability of the facility.  It was recommended that we find a guest speaker -- someone as enjoyable as the brewmeister from last year. Andrea said she would look for someone, and was open to any suggestions.
