Activity #1

Title:

Meeting in Miniature

Description

The section held a technical meeting on April 3rd, 
2004 at Carroll College in Helena Montana.  Section 
members and student affiliates presented a number of 
papers. $500 travel awards were made to the best 
undergraduate and graduate presentations.

Activity #2

Title

Montana Fall Social

Description

Sept 28-29 2004 at the University of Montana 
Biological Station on Flathead Lake. This meeting was 
organized as part of the annual fall meeting to 
gather all Montana ACS members in an informal 
atmosphere. Families were welcomed and invited to the 
fall social. An executive meeting was held at the end 
of the conference to discuss all local section 
business affairs. Our guest speakers from the Big Sky 
brewery in Missoula, Montana gave a technical 
presentation including 'hands-on' testing of good and 
bad products that entertained and engaged the 
audience.

Activity #3

Title

ACS Display Table at MSTA Conference

Description
Please limit
to one paragraph

October 23, 2004 in Helena, Montana. The local ACS 
section displayed a table of pamphlets, freebies, and 
catalogs informing K-12 teachers about National 
Chemistry Week which (conflicted in a short week in 
the Montana K-12 academic schedule). Two officers 
were present all day to coordinate the needs of 
science teachers and the offerings the ACS may 
provide. Door prizes for the MSTA luncheon were in 
part provided by the Montana ACS section.

B. Summary - Overall Section Activities

Please summarize in 1,000 words or less, the activities of the section in 2004 which have not been already described. Outstanding events should be described in some detail and appropriate attachments included in Appendix 1. Programs described here may be featured in publications produced by the ACS Membership Division and/or at the ACS Leaders Conference.

C. Local Section and Chair Goals

2004 Goal Attainment. The Local Section Activities Committee strongly encourages local section planning. As a result, the 2004 local section annual report should follow-up on the attainment of goals. Please list the goals you set at the beginning of your term for your section and yourself, and report on the attainment of the goals.

Local Section Goals and Assessment:

Our primary goal in the Montana ACS section is to 
involve more ACS members in the society. Our section 
covers 150,000 square miles with only a population of 
850,000 and 204 members. 
   We did encourage more members to get involved by 
running for Sectional ACS offices. These new officers 
from different geographical areas will hopefully 
strengthen the Montana ACS.

2004 Chair's Goals and Assessment:

My personal goal for our Montana section of the ACS 
was to involve the ACS in K-12 sciences. To this end 
some progress was made but I leave it to my successor 
to further this goal.
