The section held a technical meeting on April 12,
2003 at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
Sections members and student affiliates presented 15
papers. Drs. Don and Andrea Stierle from the
Department of Chemistry, Montana Tech of the
University of Montana, Missoula spoke about bioactive
metabolites from acid mine organisms. Three $500
travel awards were made to the best undergraduate and
graduate presentations. |

The 2003 annual Fall Social was held at Fairmont Hot
Springs on Friday, October 24, including an informal
buffet dinner with time to socialize. The
following morning, an exectuive committee meeting was
held. |

A section member introduced the idea and the
section was part of a program in which undergraduate
students performing research presented posters at the
state capitol. The effort was to show state
legislators the importance of research and education. |
