Chair

Nick Benfaremo

Nick Benfaremo is Assistant of Professor at St. Joseph’s College of Maine.  He has taught at the University of Southern Maine and Vassar College.  He has worded as an industrial chemist for Texaco, a researcher at the University of Massachusetts –Lowell and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Chemistry.  He has also worked as a professional baker. Jerome Mullin

Dr. Mullin has been teaching at The University of New England (UNE since 1990.  Dr. Mullin's primary research focus has aimed toward the analytical applications of chemiluminescence and the development of fluorescence-based fiber optic sensors. His current projects involve the determination of heavy metal distributions in marine sediments, the determination of other environmentally important analytes in natural samples and investigations of the spectroscopic and electrochemical characteristics of novel organometallic compounds (e.g., Group-14 metalloles) that have unusual photoluminescence properties.

François G. Amar

François G. Amar is Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Maine. His research interests include simulations of clusters, gas-surface reaction dynamics, and optical properties of nanoparticles. He is also a member of faculty of the

Bill Hoyt

Professor Hoyt has been on the faculty of Saint Joseph's College of Maine since 1978, and his courses include Astronomy, Environmental Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I and II and Analytical Chemistry. His academic interests focus on developments in astronomy and the solar system as well as advances in organic chemistry. He also does research on the coupling of acid chlorides.

Professor Hoyt's article, titled "Freight Trains - A Useful Analogy of Polymers," was published in the Journal of Chemical Education, and his article, "Nuclear War - The Ultimate Environmental Insult," appeared in the Journal of the New England Association of Chemistry Teachers.
