| New ChemLuminary Award to be Given in 2009
The ACS Committee on Local Section Activities would like to announce a new ChemLuminary Award to be awarded in 2009. This award will recognize a local section for an alliance with another group that results in a successful activity. The criteria for receiving the award include forming a successful alliance/partnership with another group (the group may be internal or external of ACS and the alliance may be temporary or a longer-lasting relationship) and hosting an activity as a result of the alliance/partnership. Other information to be considered in the selection of the recipient(s) includes the number of members from both groups that participated, the overall attendance of the activity, and what promotional work was done before the activity occurred. Local sections will be asked for self-nominations on the 2008 annual report. The motivation behind this award is to encourage interactions among ACS entities (local sections, the Women Chemists Committee, the Younger Chemists Committee, etc.) and also among local sections and other community groups such as scouts, special interest groups, and Rotary Clubs, just to name a few. By encouraging these partnerships, we are increasing the influence of ACS in our communities and educating the community on how chemistry can change our world for the better.
