Winter 2006

New Templates Available for Local Section Web Sites

The recent member satisfaction survey confirms what we believed to be true. The Internet is increasingly more important to our members and how they want to interact with the American Chemical Society. We know that you too believe this because you maintain a web site for your group.

I am pleased to announce a new service we are launching in 2006 to help support the work you do for ACS online. The Board of Directors approved funding for the Web Presence reinvention project last year. A part of the funding establishes a full-time staff position to assist you with the development and maintenance of a web presence.

A set of new Web templates are available for your use. These templates provide an updated look and feel and contain a style guide to help guide volunteers through their use. We are developing a bi-monthly set of tips for volunteer webmasters, and are also piloting a community site for webmasters with a small group of volunteers from committees, local sections, and divisions.

I look forward to sending you updates on our progress. I hope if you have other ideas or suggestions you’ll share them with me or Sarah Blendermann as we continue to grow our services in this area.

Denise Creech
Director, ACS Membership Division
