| BE A VOICE IN YOUR LOCAL SECTION!
The American Chemical Society (ACS) Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) was formed to identify the needs and concerns of younger chemists and to develop programs responsive to their needs. The Committee is driven by three goals:
1) Make the ACS relevant to younger chemists.
2) Increase the involvement of younger chemists in the ACS at all levels.
3) Develop mechanisms to integrate younger chemists into the profession. Younger chemists are people not yet established in their careers. The criterion for being a member of this group is not age but experience (Editor's note: ACS established the maximum age for YCC designation as 35 years).
Happy 30th Anniversary!

Get Active in the Local Section Do you want to start an LSYCC? Download our starter kit, as either a Word .doc (319k) or a PDF (596k). It has everything you need to get the younger chemists in your area working together, including an application for a starter grant. Check the YCC web page to see if your local section has an YCC group. ChemLuminary Awards YCC has asked each local section to appoint a younger chemist representative. Find out whether your local section has done so, and/or volunteer to represent younger chemists in your local section. YCC also asks that younger chemists work with their local section to submit an annual report of their activities. The report is a supplemental section of the local section ACS annual report that is submitted annually at the beginning of February, and guidelines for these annual reports are on the YCC website ( www.chemistry.org/ycc ). Local section YCC annual reports are used to determine the winners of four different ChemLuminary Awards given by YCC, recognizing extraordinary younger chemist efforts and activities in local sections and divisions. Be sure to submit yours this year to be eligible for a ChemLuminary Award! Featured YCCs YCC features the activities of local YCCs in their newsletter. Please let us know if you have active younger chemists in your local section or area; e-mail us at ycc@acs.org !
