| Ready. Set. Pilot…. Building Skills, Creating Leaders
As you and your local section members prepare to attend a 2008 ACS Regional Meeting or the Fall National Meeting in Philadelphia, you may want to consider participating in one or more of the courses offered through the ACS Leadership Development System. These practical, hands-on courses will provide you and your members with core leadership tools needed to help them in their volunteer positions in your local section and in their professional lives.
The three courses that are being piloted include:
1. Involving Volunteers (4 hours) –practical tools that leaders need to recruit and engage volunteers.
2. Leading Change (4 hours) –¬ a step-wise process to lead change more effectively.
3. Innovation - (4 hours) – tools to stimulate innovative thinking among team members.
See the chart below to find what courses will be offered at which meetings.
We believe your members, like those members who have participated in other pilots, will agree…
“In 24 years I’ve taken a lot of leadership courses. And I’ll tell you, this is not just among the best—but the best—course I’ve ever taken.”
Katie Hunt
Immediate Past President, ACS
"I found the leadership workshop extremely informative. The presenters were engaging, and examples were relevant to not only the ACS activities that members are involved in, but they also applied to work settings." Sadiq Shah, Ph.D.Associate Vice President Office of Research & Economic Development Western Kentucky University
Encourage your members not to miss this opportunity to develop new leadership skills that will help them advance in their career and help them lead more effectively in your ACS volunteer role. As a local section leader you will benefit from having members who develop these new leadership skills.
