The goal of the newsletter is to provide you with timely information, tools and tips for success, and innovative ideas and activities that your local section may find of interest. ACS Recognizes Hard Work of Local Sections and Divisions at a Festive Ceremony in New York City!
Chemluminary  Awards LogoThe fifth annual ACS ChemLuminary Awards were presented at a ceremony during last month's ACS national meeting in New York City. The awards recognize the thousands of hours that members volunteer in service to their local sections and divisions.

At this year's ceremony, which honored activities held in 2002, 13 committees and divisions were on hand to present the ChemLuminary Awards. A total of 48 awards were presented to ACS volunteers. Most Local Sections will elect their 2004 officers in November and suddenly ACS will have a new set of Chairs-in-waiting. Hopefully most of these newly minted Chairs-elect will attend the Leadership Conference in New Orleans next February. National Chemistry Week Takes Flight!
NCW LogoAll 189 ACS local sections have selected National Chemistry week NCW) Coordinators for the 2003 NCW celebration (October 19-25).

To see what is planned for your area, check out the listings by state/territory at the bottom right corner of the NCW webpage. The theme for NCW-2003 is “Earth’s Atmosphere and Beyond!” both to commemorate the 100th anniversary of powered flight (Wright Brothers, 1903), and to acknowledge our commitment to space exploration and astrochemistry.
