That was the theme of the 9th Annual ChemLuminary Award Celebration held in conjunction with the ACS national meeting in Boston on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. With about 500 in attendance, 12 committees presented a total of 43 awards recognizing the volunteer efforts of ACS local sections and divisions. Congratulations to all the winners! More>>

Dr. Percy L. Julian: A Trailblazing Inspirational Scientist (on DVD)
On sale now at the ACS Online Store, this remarkable film created by NOVA, Percy Julian: Forgotten Genius, tells the life story of a trailblazing African-American chemist, Dr. Percy Levon Julian. NOVA uses period reenactments based on newly accessible family archives and interviews to bring to life the gripping biography of this world-class scientist. The film tells a story that is largely unknown. It is narrated by Courtney Vance, and the part of Dr. Julian is played by the Tony Award-winning actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson. More>>
CollectiveX Pilot Test

ACS is conducting a pilot test of CollectiveX, an online collaboration tool for group networking. The software has been tested at the national level by several committees, including the Committee on Local Section Activities. Local Section Executive Committees are now invited to explore the benefits of this group networking tool. More>>

ACS Podcasting Science for Members and Public
ACS members now have the opportunity to share exciting, cutting-edge scientific discoveries with their children, local science teachers, museums, libraries, and others through a new podcast launched this summer by the ACS Office of Communications. More>>

Science Café Mini-grants Still Available
Learn more about how to organize your own Science Café at www.acs.org. Your local section can apply for a mini-grant of $500 from LSAC, which will support the Cafés through 2008. Even if you have already received funding, you can still request a mini-grant to help sustain your program. E-mail the completed application or fax it to (202) 872-4353. LSAC looks forward to hearing about the success of your Science Café in the weeks and months ahead.
