Section Annual Report
The ACS Constitution and Bylaws require that each of the 189 local sections
submit an annual report that details their programmatic and financial
activities for each calendar year. As a national grassroots organization,
ACS uses the annual reports to gauge the vitality of its local sections
and to determine whether its programming efforts are meeting the core
strategies outlined in the society's strategic plan. On the local level,
the annual reports provide a comprehensive historical overview for each
section's activities and accomplishments for the previous calendar year.
The section chair is responsible for ensuring that the entire report is
filed and that the content accurately describes the section's activities
during the reporting year. However, completing the annual report requires
a coordinated effort by various volunteer members of the local section
governance (usually the chair, chair-elect, councilor, treasurer, secretary,
and others).
In December, local section officers were e-mailed userIDs and passwords
to access SOLARv2.0 (Submit On-Line Annual Reports). SOLARv2.0 allows
local sections to file their annual reports on-line and is designed to
facilitate collaboration among section members that are completing their
annual reports. In addition, all local section chairs were provided with
three additional SOLAR userID’s to distribute to other section leaders,
such as the NCW coordinator and committee chairs, who can assist with
submitting the report or with self-nominations for ACS ChemLuminary Awards.
Details about the annual reporting process, as well as links to downloadable
forms, SOLAR, annual reports from 2003, and 2003 Local Section Statistical
Review, are available on the Annual Report Information Page.
Shortly after your report is received, the Office of Local Section Activities
will process your local section’s 2005 allotment and will remit
payment to your local section treasurer. In addition, your annual report
will be assigned to a member of the Local Section Activities Committee
(LSAC). LSAC members will carefully review your report and will provide
feedback and recommendations back to the local section officers.
