– joint AICHe/ACS Meeting,
October 21, 2007, Wizard's Academy
Indiana Medical History Museum
Science-magic will take center stage at the Wizard's Academy on October 21st
this year. Young wizards can experience snakes, rats and owls and be astounded
by unexpected outcomes in three science-based 'classes' in turn of the century
laboratory-classrooms.
The Wizard's Academy, designed to engage late elementary and middle-school
children in the wonders of science, will be presented at the Indiana Medical
History Museum. At 2 pm, the participants will gather in the Surgical Theater at
the museum to enjoy Magical Creatures presented by the Indianapolis Zoo. The
young students will be dazzled in
the wonders of physics and chemistry by University of Indianapolis students who
are members of the Sigma Zeta Science Honorary. These
"professors" will present demonstrations and hands-on activities in Levitation
(electricity and magnetism), Transfiguration (chemistry), and
Incantations and Magical Music (the physics of sound). Participants are
encouraged to come in costume.
This program is sponsored by the Indiana Section of the American Chemical
Society, the University of Indianapolis, and the Indiana
Medical History Museum. The cost of the program for participants is $6 for
children and $4 for adults. Reservations can be made by calling the
Museum at 317-635-7329 or through email at
edenharter@imhm.org. Directions can be found at the museum website (www.imhm.org).
