Mission
Statement
The objectives of this Subdivision shall
be:
- to provide a forum for the presentation
and discussion of a comprehensive range of research topics on crop-based and
other renewable resources, and to encourage interaction and partnership between
academic, government, and industrial institutions working on the chemical
aspects of this area of science.
- to increase the diffusion of recent
research and technology advances through the development of a portfolio of
symposia dedicated to topical issues on bio-based materials and sustainable
technologies.
- to encourage research in all aspects
of crop-based materials and their applications, and promote the development
of interdisciplinary and international scientific collaborations in these
areas.
- to provide a basis for the continuing
education of those chemists and related scientists (including students) involved
with renewable resource materials and further public interest in these areas.
- to bring the importance of sustainable
science and technology - and more generally crop-based materials chemistry
- under the attention of the American Chemical Society and encourage the activities
of the Society in these areas.

Membership
Interdisciplinary Approach
The primary mission of the Industrial
Bio-based Technology Subdivision is the dissemination of current and pertinent
information to professionals using bio-based raw materials in activities across
the broad spectrum of chemistry and chemical engineering.
Eligibility
As a professional actively engaged in
work that relies on bio-based technology, you are invited to join the Subdivision.
Current members use bio-based technology on both bench and industrial scales in
such diverse areas as polymers, coatings, composites, adhesives, and bio-fuels.
Thus, the Subdivision's symposia and papers have practical application to your
specific scientific concerns.

Programming
The Industrial Bio-Based Technology
Sub-division takes pride in the quality and quantity of programming organized
and presided over by its members. Pending IBT Symposia are maintained on this
site by the Programming Committee. The committee is glad to accept your ideas
for symposia topical material.
Matching Funds are
Available from the IBT Subdivision in Support of Symposia
One mission of the Subdivision is to
foster high quality programming activities. In support of this objective, funds
are available from the Subdivision to support industrial bio-based programming
activities at ACS national and regional meetings as well as other international
symposia. Organizers interested in obtaining matching funds should contact any
member of the Executive Committee for more details, including selection criteria.
Assistance to Symposia
Organizers
If you are involved in organizing symposia,
you will find the "Handbook for I&EC Division Symposium Organizers" By Wallace
W. Schulz and Kathleen M. Schulz to be a useful resource. A copy of this material
is located at:
