2002 Dr. Sigmund Abeles Science Advocate Award to Sr. Claire Markham

Sister Claire Markham, emerita Professor of Chemistry, Saint Joseph College, Hartford, CT, was the recipient of the 2002 Dr. Sigmund Abeles Science Advocate Award, sponsored by the Connecticut Science Teachers Association (CSTA) and Connecticut Science Supervisors Association (CSSA).  The award is given to An individual who has provided outstanding service to science education in Connecticut and who demonstrates a long-term commitment to science education.  Sr. Claire was nominated independently by two science educators and approved by enthusiastic acclamation by CSTA and CSSA officers.  She was presented the award in October 2002 at a reception held at the Eli Whitney Museum in New Haven, followed by a dinner at the New Haven Lawn Club.  ACS/CVS congratulates Sr. Claire, a 50-year ACS member, former CVS chair, and long-time Councilor!
