Message from the Chair

Welcome to the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Health and Safety (CHAS) website. CHAS provides expertise in laboratory safety and chemical management and safe chemical work practices to the Society and the general public. To accomplish this mission, the Division:

  • provides information on the properties of chemicals that affect humans directly or through the environment
  • develops workshops, training sessions, symposium and general sessions on laboratory safer-related topics at national, regional and other meetings of the American Chemical Society and organizations with related professional interests
  • publishes manuscripts on relevant topics in the Journal of Chemical Health & Safety
  • maintains online sources of information and references
  • maintains an online listserv for CHAS members to promote discussion and information sharing.

Check out the "News and Upcoming Events" section to see the Division's activities. The 2007 CHAS Annual Report is also available to review (in PDF format).

If you are just learning about CHAS, please review our membership benefits and information about the Journal of Chemical Health & Safety.

We are regularly updating the site, so please check back to see what is new. We welcome your comments.
