Activities and Stuff

Planning an outreach event can be intimidating. Sometimes just coming up with an idea is a challenge, so here we will collect simple activities that have been done by our members. Other times it's finding what you need that takes too long, so we will also start creating kits that you can use for your outreach activities.

Activities and Kits

Fun with Baking Soda
During this activity, which is suitable for elementary school children, students do two quick experiments and record a few observations. Students are then asked to use what they have learned to blow up a balloon and to launch a film canister rocket.

Feel free to use the activity, which is available here. Please let us know what you think so we can make it better. If you would like to use the Fun with Baking Soda "kit" please contact Chris Masi. The kit contains balloons, five powder funnels, reagent bottles, disposable plastic pipets, film canister, and five plastic soda bottles. The caps of the soda bottles have been drilled so younger students can screw their balloons onto the bottles.
