Guidelines for Divisions
Procedures Manual Guidelines
- Each Division should have a procedures manual, not only to formalize and document their activities, but also to provide an invaluable resource for new Division leaders. For a hard copy of the DAC Procedures Manual Guidelines, please contact division@acs.org.
Code of Practice
- The Society recognizes its obligation to provide assistance to those Members who have accepted leadership responsibilities. DAC has developed this Code of Practice to provide guidelines that will assist Officers, Committee Chairs, and others who volunteer their services to the Divisions in their efforts to build strong and healthy organizations.
Formation of a Probationary Division
- A summary of the necessary steps a group must take in order to form a probationary division.
Guidelines for Secretariats
- The purpose of secretariats is to facilitate cross-divisional programming on topics that any one Division could not develop on its own. Secretariats are unofficial (you will find no mention of them in the ACS Bylaws), and their articles of agreement (akin to Division Bylaws) are minimal. DAC approved these Guidelines for the Formation, Operation, and Dissolution of Secretariats based on discussions with Division and Secretariat members.
Guidelines for Affiliation with Other Societies
- A concise memorandum of understanding should be developed between the Division and other organization(s) including the purpose of the affiliation and any financial arrangements to be handled at the termination of the affiliation
Guidelines for ACS Cosponsorship of Meetings
- The American Chemical Society encourages the pursuit of joint activities in areas of mutual interest with other national and international scientific and technical societies and organizations.
Guidelines for Division Name Changes
- Because the Society takes program turf issues seriously, any change in a Division's bylaws which result in, or even suggest a change in mission, objectives or programming scope of that Division will normally be brought to the attention of all Divisions.
Guidelines for Combination or Dissolution of a Division
- Upon substantive failure of a Division to meet satisfactory Division status or upon indication of mismanagement, DAC can recommend Combination or Dissolution of a Division.
Guidelines for Membership Directories
- The production of a division and/or local section directory must comply with ACS Board of Directors Regulation VIII, 7.
