W. H. Peterson Awards for Best Student Presentations
The W.H. Peterson Awards are annually awarded to students
who present outstanding research work in sessions sponsored
by the Division of Biochemical Technology (BIOT) at ACS
National meetings. Two Awards are presented: one for the
best oral presentation, and one for the best poster presentation.
Each awardee will receive a cash award of $1000 and a plaque
to commemorate the award. Additionally, each awardee will
receive up to a $250 catalog credit from Gibco Cell Culture
- Invitrogen, for their research groups. The Division of Biochemical
Technology is pleased to have Gibco Cell Culture,
Invitrogen as a continuing financial sponsor of the award.
Students wishing to apply for the award should submit the
following.
1. The application form duly filled out (download from
link below).
2. A current Curriculum Vitae including record of manuscripts
published or in review (not in preparation), previous presentations
based on student's thesis research at regional or national
meetings, indicating the presenter, and whether it was an
oral or poster presentation.
3. An extended abstract of the proposed presentation. The
extended abstract should include a maximum of two pages
of text and maximum of four attached figures and/or tables.
This abstract should describe the research question(s) that
will be addressed in the presentation, the extent to which
those questions will been answered, and the technological/scientific
significance of the results. Indicate the publication status
of this research at the time of application, including the
journal and expected date of submission/publication.
Please email the above documents to your advisor, and request
your advisor to forward the documents, along with a confidential
reference letter supporting your nomination for the award
by email to petersonaward2008@merck.com
Applications should be received by July 5, 2008.
Please note that all applicants should be student members
of the ACS BIOT Division. Previous winners of the W. H.
Peterson Award may not apply again.
Note that the application for the W. H. Peterson Award
is separate from the application for the BIOT Travel Subsidy.
