The Retired Chemists Group An Activity of the Chemical Society of Washington
Retired and active chemists and their scientifically inclined friends are invited to attend any of the Luncheon Meetings of the RCG. The mid-week, daytime programs include lectures (and occasional allied tours) on subjects of general interest as well as the chance to socialize with former colleagues or make new friends. There are no dues or attendance requirements; just the opportunity to further your continuing interest in science in a relaxed environment. Details of upcoming RCG Meetings are presented in the appropriate issues of The Capital Chemist and on this website.

Proposed Program for September 2008
- A Travelogue of Provence, France
In 2007, Anne Leslie and her husband toured this area and took great photos, which show a palette of warm colors. This is also an area with an aroma of sweet scents that brings forth dreams of sunny vacations. In addition they have photos of the Pont du Gard in Nimes, a monumental Roman aqueduct that spans the River Gard, and of photos of Paleolithic cave paintings in the Gorge of the Ardeche River. The attendees will dine at the Pier 7 on Washington's waterfront or in VA. The proposed time is the latter part of September. In June of 2006 many of you attended her outstanding travelogue of Portugal.
(The chairwoman for this event is Anne Leslie.)
Opportunities for Retired Chemists
Attention Retirees in Montgomery County and Fairfax County

In retirement, do you want to
- Make a contribution to your local community
- Improve the understanding of science by society
- Contribute to the learning of science by students in your local school district
- Capitalize on your technical training and career experience?
If the answers are yes, consider spending a modest fraction of your time assisting K-8 science teachers in your local school district.
There is an active science volunteer project with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), developed by the Senior Scientists and Engineers (SSE), a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and one is being formed to support the schools in Fairfax County. Information about MCPS can be obtained by sending an email to sse@aaas.org , or going to www.seniorscientist.org/volunteer. The contact for the Fairfax County initiative is Dave Venezky, dvenez@erols.com. If you don't live in one of these counties, consider forming a science volunteer project for your own county schools. The site www.seniorscientist.org, offers helpful tips and information derived from the MCPS project.
