American Chemical Society Chemical Society of Washington, CSW
The Retired Chemists Group An Activity of the Chemical Society of Washington
Retired and active chemists and their scientifically inclined friends are invited to attend any of the RCG Luncheon Meetings. The mid-week, daytime programs have included scientific talks, travelogues, and tours of near by museums and mansions. The RCG is essentially a social group, for one has an opportunity to socialize with former colleagues or to make new friends. Many of our programs will appeal to spouses and friends. There are no dues or attendance requirements, just the opportunity to further your continuing interest not only in science but in other areas. We have three luncheons per year, usually in April, June and October. All events are carried out in a relaxed environment.
Details of June and October luncheons will be posted here when they are finalized. Using a RCG file of e-mail addresses, the RCG secretary will send via the Internet an announcement of a luncheon about a month before the date of the event. If a member has no e-mail address but has attended a recent luncheon, he or she will receive an announcement via the USPS.
If you are interested in receiving our announcements via the Internet, please send your name, email address, telephone number, and USPS address to:
. If you know of a speaker or a place to visit that you believe would be of interest to RCG members, please send this information also.

Opportunities for Retired Chemists
Attention Retirees in Montgomery County and Fairfax County
In retirement, do you want to
- Make a contribution to your local community
- Improve the understanding of science by society
- Contribute to the learning of science by students in your local school district
- Capitalize on your technical training and career experience?
If the answers are yes, consider spending a modest fraction of your time assisting K-8 science teachers in your local school district.
There is an active science volunteer project with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), developed by the Senior Scientists and Engineers (SSE), a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and one is being formed to support the schools in Fairfax County. Information about MCPS can be obtained by sending an email to sse@aaas.org , or going to www.seniorscientist.org/volunteer. The contact for the Fairfax County initiative is Dave Venezky, dvenez@cox.net . If you don't live in one of these counties, consider forming a science volunteer project for your own county schools. The site www.seniorscientist.org, offers helpful tips and information derived from the MCPS project.
