Information for Attendees and CSW-Sponsored Events and Tours
WELCOME TO WASHINGTON, DC
On behalf of the 4300 members of the Chemical Society of Washington (CSW), its officers, councilors, and managers, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our Nation's Capital.
We very much appreciate and acknowledge the special privilege the American Chemical Society has given CSW in asking us to serve as the host section for its 230th National Meeting, August 28th through September 1st, 2005. The Chemical Society of Washington, established in January 1884, is now in its 121st year. The American Chemical Society chartered CSW as one of its local sections in April 1893.
Based on past experience, we expect that new discoveries will be reported and that new experimental data as well as many new insights, theories and explanations will be presented, proposed, and questioned during the course of this 230th National Meeting. We are equally confident that the time you spend here will prove productive, lead to important developments in the chemical sciences, engineering and technology, and ultimately result in innovations with significant socio-economic impacts for our country and the world.
Please remember that just outside the Convention Center lie the magnificence, the grandeur and the beauty of America's capital city. New architecture of the last year, in addition to the construction of the new DC Convention Center that currently serves as headquarters for the 230th ACS National Meeting, includes the National World War II Memorial and the National Museum of the American Indian. A great variety of neo-classical buildings and monuments line the wide streets and traffic circles initially laid out by Pierre L'Enfant in 1791. We hope that our museums, libraries, colleges, universities, unique research facilities, foundations, funding agencies and other treasures will provide happy memories of your visit to the Nation's Capital. To that end, CSW will maintain a Hospitality Booth just inside the L Street Entrance (where the ACS buses stop). Please come by for a souvenir of your visit to Washington, visitors' information and maps.
Best wishes for a successful meeting and a pleasant stay in Washington,
James J. Zwolenik, President Chemical Society of Washington
