The
Western Maryland Local Section was nominated for the 2007 Speaker
Service Hospitality Award by the National ACS for outstanding
performance while hosting an ACS Tour Speaker! Nominations were
judged on how well the local section prepared for the speaker visit
including publicity efforts, local arrangements, communication with the
speaker, success of the meeting and follow-up. Selected by a
committee of current tour speakers, the awards were presented at the
Local Section Officers and Tour Speakers Reception at the ACS National
Meeting in New Orleans on Tuesday, April 8. First place received
an engraved trophy plus a gift certificate for a free tour speaker;
second place received an engraved trophy; third place received an
engraved plaque. Once again, congratulations to every member of
the local section for this outstanding honor.
"Joseph Priestly" featured speaker in May
The
Western Maryland Local Section is sponsoring an awards dinner for
outstanding chemistry students in the area on Thursday, May 15 at the
Ali Ghan Shrine Club in Cumberland, MD. Dinner will begin at 6:30
with a presentation given by Mr. Ronald Blatchley (as Dr. Joseph
