WCC Delivers…
On this webpage, you can find links to various WCC activities and related material. But we’ve been asked – what does WCC do? Here are some recent accomplishments of WCC.
· The number of women nominated for ACS awards has increased since 2000. Women are now receiving 16% of ACS national awards. WCC sends out hundreds of letters to chemistry department chairs, ACS leaders, and past award recipients urging them to nominate women and other underrepresented groups for all awards.
· 447 young women have presented papers at national scientific meeting after receiving an award from the Eli Lilly/WCC travel award program.
· WCC hosts workshops and programs at national ACS meetings to meet your technical, professional, and career development needs.
· WCC provided opportunities for networking and mentoring at a variety of ACS events, including most regional meetings.
· We publish interviews with successful women chemists for our newsletter, providing career advice and concrete examples that success is achievable.
· WCC represents women chemists on a variety of levels within the ACS. We network with other women chemists’ organizations such as the German equivalent of WCC, the the Women Initiatives Committee of AIChE, COACh, Iota Sigma Pi, and AWIS.
· 43 local section WCCs offer women chemists a local home to build their network and provide programming of interest. Three of these groups are recognize with ACS ChemLuminary awards each year.
· The WCC website and newsletter (with a circulation of more than 25,000) bring news electronically to all women chemists.
· Our website hosts a mentoring page featuring three experienced women chemists from different backgrounds. There are links to employment opportunities and other items of interest to women chemists.
We welcome your comments and suggestions for other programs and activities.
