Strategies for Career Transitions
In today's job market, chemical professionals need to explore possible career transitions. This workshop will cover the major components of job hunting, with an emphasis on the transition process and ways in which chemical professionals can identify possible job/career options. Topics covered will include employment trends, personal assessment, targeting the job markets (networking and resume preparation, and interviewing skills.
5:30 - 8:30 Local Industry Showcase and Job Fair
Chemistry related companies from throughout central New Jersey will describe the work they do, and the types openings they expect to have for chemistry professionals. Even if you are not currently search for new employment this will event provide a fascinating glimpse of the wealth of chemistry related industry in our area. 6:30 - 7:30 ACS Workshop: Career Strategies, Critical Steps for Success
This session will begin to explore what you can do today to prepare yourself for the job market of tomorrow. These strategies can help you to get ahead without leaving your current employer.
6:30 - 7:30 Discussion Panel: Education or Academia as a Second Career
The decision, or requirement, to change employment provides an opportunity to re-think your career objectives. One option could be to use the scientific knowledge and experience you have obtained to help the next generation of chemists as an educator in a school or university. Three people who made this decision will briefly share their experiences, and answer your questions in this informal session.
7:30 - 8:30 Discussion Panel: Local Resources for Job Seekers
Representatives from local job clubs, recruiters, and the ACS will briefly describe the services and resources that are available to you, and answer your questions in this informal session.
