| Membership in the Pittsburgh Section of the American
Chemical Society is automatic for all members of the
National ACS who reside in the area encompassed by the
Pittsburgh Section (see the map at top). The number of
such members is important to the Section in many ways: in
maintaining a viable, active organization; in financial
support for section activities received from the National
ACS; and in the number of Councilors the Pittsburgh
Section sends to consider the business of the National
ACS. All members receive a copy of the Section
newsletter, The Crucible. In addition to the automatic membership in the Section mentioned above, members have the option to contribute a Membership Fee to the Section to support activities of the Section, such as the publication of The Crucible, allocations to the topical Groups for their operation, etc. The opportunity to contribute in this way may be found on the Renewal Invoice received annually for payment of dues to the National ACS. The full amount of these fee contributions is returned to the Section by the National ACS. Alternatively, a member could contribute the fee directly to the Treasurer of the Section. Associate Membership in the Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society is available under guidelines of the National American Chemical Society; see any officer of the Pittsburgh Section for further information. Groups in the Pittsburgh Section provide the focus for many of the invited speakers presenting talks on topical issues of interest to the membership. The small membership fees collected by the Groups helps to defray the costs of these activities. See the Chair or other officers of the individual groups for further information. |
