Natural resources theme of campus Science Cafe

CANTON - Spoon River College will present a Science Cafe on Thursday with several events scheduled pertaining to the theme of natural resources."The Lessons of Eagles and Man" will be presented at 11 a.m. in the conference center by Dr. Thomas Dunstan, acting director of the Western Illinois University College of Art and Sciences' Institute for Environmental Studies.
Dunstan, who taught for 34 years in WIU's department of biological sciences, has gained an international reputation as an expert on birds of prey and has been published in National Geographic magazine. He participated in two of Marlin Perkins' "Wild Kingdom" television shows.
Dr. Mike Lemke, microbial ecologist at the University of Illinois at Springfield, will discuss the "Emiquon Floodplain Restoration Project" at 1 p.m. in the conference center.
At 2 p.m., Jeff Bash, Spoon River College natural resources instructor, will conduct a tour of the college's prairie grass project. Several activities will be offered on the campus throughout the day.
