AN INVITATION TO JOIN THE DIVISION OF

POLYMERIC MATERIALS: SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

PMSE was founded in 1924 as the Paint and Varnish Division, and until recently was known as the Division of Organic Coatings and Plastics Chemistry. Over the years, the interests of the Division's members have come to include adhesives, biomedical polymers, composites, polymers for electronic applications, plastics and many other areas of applied polymer science and technology in addition to traditional coatings-related topics.

The principal objective of the Division is to promote interest in, and the understanding of, applied polymer science. This is achieved through regular meetings, publications, professional contacts and discussions. Since its founding, the Division has regularly participated in American Chemical Society National Meetings. The Division frequently joins with other ACS Divisions in joint and co-sponsorship of symposia and is an active participant in the Macromolecular, Biotechnology and Materials Science Secretariats. PMSE also sponsors topical workshops in conjunction with its technical meetings to provide tutorial reviews of various technologically significant fields. Program planning and the operation of the Division are carried out by member volunteers. Your participation is encouraged and welcomed.

Proceedings in CD-ROM format of the Division's meetings are sent to members shortly before the Spring and Fall National American Chemical Society Meetings. These CDs bring current technical information, as well as information regarding the Division (i.e. awards, Executive Committee roster, future PMSE symposia) to Division members.

You are cordially invited to join the Division as a full or Affiliate Member. American Chemical Society members are entitled to full membership. Non-American Chemical Society members may join the Division as an Affiliate. Affiliates share all PMSE membership benefits and receive the Proceedings of the Division, but may not vote or hold office in PMSE.

•	DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD for outstanding contributions to the long-term welfare of the Division.
•	ARTHUR K. DOOLITTLE AWARD for the best paper presented at division meetings.
•	ROY W. TESS AWARD IN COATINGS to recognize outstanding contributions in coatings science, technology and engineering.
•	COOPERATIVE RESEARCH AWARD IN POLYMER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company, in recognition of sustained research between polymer scientists working on behalf of industry and those in either the academic community or at national laboratories.
•	ICI STUDENT AWARD IN APPLIED POLYMER SCIENCE established by ICI PLC to promote graduate research in polymer science.
•	FORD TRAVEL GRANT to help support the travel of worthy graduate students (women and under-represented minority men) in order to present their work at PMSE sessions of National American Chemical Society meetings.
•	PMSE FELLOWS PROGRAM to honor a small percentage of PMSE members who have made significant contributions to the science and engineering of polymeric materials.
