One has the format a conventional crossword puzzle.
Questions and answer are arranged across and down. The answers
begin with numbered boxes and the number of letters in each
response can be counted.
The other has questions like a crossword puzzle that are
arranged across and down, but the answers are buried in a word
search. The first answers will be near the upper left and the
last answers will be near the lower right, but the positions
are not numbered as in a conventional crossword puzzle.
The advantage of this second format is that the instructor can
review the questions and any that are not appropriate for the
level of study for students can be deleted. The answers are
still embedded in the puzzle, but the student would not search
for those answers.
