Chair's Message

Hello...Welcome to the Lake Superior Local Section Home Page. We are a local chapter of the American Chemical Society located in Northwestern Wisconsin and Northeastern Minnesota.

Mission Statement:

The Lake Superior Section of the ACS provides developmental activities for its members and works to promote the understanding of chemistry and its applications in our region.

About the section:

The Lake Superior section includes Northwestern Wisconsin and Northeastern Minnesota, extending from Ashland, WI, to International Falls, MN, to Hinckley, MN. Its members include chemists from the following organizations:

Northland College in Ashland, WI

The University of Wisconsin, Superior

The University of Minnesota, Duluth

The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN

Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN

Murphy Oil in Superior

Lake Superior Research Institute at UW-Superior

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency laboratory in Duluth, MN

The Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) in Duluth, MN

For many seminars it is easier and cheaper to send the notices by email. We have email addresses for less than half of our membership. Please send an email to pstein@css.edu with your email address or addresses if any of the following apply:

1. We do not have your email address – e.g if you didn’t also receive this seminar notice via email that means we don’t have it.

2. Your email address has changed since last year.

3. You want to receive the emails at more than one address or an alternate address.

Career Workshop:

We are in the early stages of developing a career workshop for early November that will most likely be held in Duluth. It will be given by members of the ACS National Office. Please let me know if you are interested in this or have any suggestions. We would also like to advertise (free) any local businesses that employ chemists. If you would like your business listed for chemists seeking employment, please send me your company name and address along with any information regarding employment you would like to give.
