Abstract

The Blue Cat Brew Pub is a local microbrewery in Rock Island. Brew Master Dan Cleveland will lead a tour through the brewery and answer any questions related to their process.

November 4th Badal Saha from USDDARS will speak at Kent Feeds
December Dr Sally Rigeman is in charge of the December meeting which will be held at Black Hawk College.
Awards will be presented at this meeting.

KISER SCHOLARSHIP

The Kiser Scholarship 2003 in the amount of $500 was awarded to Terill Williams from Rock Island High School. Terill is attending the University of Illinois, Chicago and considering chemical engineering as a major.

The Kiser Scholarship committee which presently consists of George Bailey, Arthur Serianz, Rich Craddick and Norm Smith is looking for additional members. NATIONAL CHEMISTRY WEEK

October 19-25 is the scheduled date for National Chemistry Week 2003. This year`s theme is "Earth`s atmosphere and Beyond". The section has budgeted money to support activities held in conjunction with National Chemistry Week. NATIONAL/REGIONAL ACS NEWS

The 2002 Annual Report submitted by our section received an excellent review. We are among the finalists for the 2002 Outstanding Performance Award category!

The American Chemical Society 36th Great Lakes Regional Meeting is scheduled to take place in Peoria, Illinois, October 17-20, 2004. There are many opportunities for members of our section to participate in this event.
