
The 2008 Chemistry Olympiad was held on March 29 at Clinton Community College. Nineteen students from four high schools (Fulton, Iowa City West, Sterling, and Prince of Peace) participated.
The following students qualified to compete on the national chemistry exam given at Clinton Community College on April 17: Ann Say and Emily Ansusinha, Sterling High School; Erica Bush and Zebrianna Dauphin, Fulton High School; Curie Ahn, Iowa City West High School. Alternates are: Ellen Benson, Matthew Hulten and Madison Henry from Sterling High School. The competition is part of the process to choose a team for the United States that will compete in the International Chemistry Olympiad to be held July 21, 2008 in Budapest, Hungary.
Industries that were major contributors to the 2008 Olympiad include: Agri-King Inc., Bemis Clysar Inc., 3M Corporation and Sethness Products Co.
The event was hosted by Dr. John Bonte (Clinton Community College). Other volunteers included Terry Geerts, Will Grimes, Ken Legendre, and David Tuescher (Sethness Products), Dick Kissack (Clinton High Scool-retired), Marion Johnson, and Mary Ellen Biggin (Augustana College).
