On Wednesday
evening, April 14, 2004, Professor Ronald Breslow of Columbia
University will present the
First Quadrennial Frank C. Whitmore Lecture on “Chemistry – Education
and Public Policy” at Penn State. A member of the National
Academy of Sciences, Breslow is a recipient of the National Medal
of Science, the American Chemical Society Priestley Medal, and
this years $300,000 Welch Award in Chemistry. Starting with his
work on the mechanism of action of Vitamin B1, Breslow has pioneered
the field of biomimetic chemistry. He has served as president
of the ACS and has written (author of “Chemistry Today
and Tomorrow”)
and spoken on the general subject of this lecture. |
