Sr. Metabolism Chemist • St. Louis, MO •

We are seeking an experienced metabolism chemist/ biochemist to conduct major regulatory studies such as plant metabolism, soil metabolism (aerobic and anaerobic), livestock or rat metabolism; isolate/purify radiolabeled trace metabolites from biological matrices; and quantify, characterize and identify pesticide metabolites and environmental degradates. The successful candidate will use spectroscopic tools, primarily HPLC and mass spectroscopy, but also NMR, GC and TLC with radioactivity detection; and synthesize metabolite and degradate standards for structure elucidation. You will work within cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams for characterization and analyses of endogenous plant metabolites, lipids, carbohydrates, and other small molecules in complex matrices such as grain, foods and feeds in support of Monsanto's biotechnology product pipelines. Requires a Ph.D. in organic chemistry or biochemistry, 5+ years industrial experience, and knowledge of worldwide regulatory processes & GLP regulations. Familiarity with radiolabeled materials is desired. Knowledge of biochemical pathways, metabolic transformation and analytical techniques with an emphasis on HPLC, NMR and mass spectrometry is preferred.
